You remember when cars being released was such a surprise? Yeah, me neither. But you know what’s more surprising? When expected cars aren’t coming in the expected time frame. Isn’t that unexpected? Especially for Volkswagen. The German Automaker has mentioned that the long-anticipated EV revival of their iconic minivan is now on hold. Meaning that it can only arrive as soon as 2023. This was news made earlier this month by a VW executive, but to be honest, people have been looking forward to Volkswagen bringing a classic into the electric age since 2017.

So this is a bummer.

It felt just like the other day.

They debuted the car way back in 2017 during a car show and while it looked kinda generic, it was a fantastical tease nonetheless.

Volkswagen likes to say that they are too bringing the EV microbus into exitsence soon. It’s just that the investment of producing it in the USA is a little risque.

As of now, there are two options when it comes to getting your hands on the steering wheel of the ID BUZZ. First up, the high-end deluxe version, featuring AWD, 369 hp and a huge 111 kilowatt battery pack. This is pretty shocking considering that there have been other range comparisons.

Secondly, the more expensive one will have similarly suped-up specs, with a range of 270 miles. Volkswagen has high hopes that the ID BUZZ will punch it from zero to sixty in five seconds. Not much higher than that, though, as the ID BUZZ will top at 99 mph.

One less pricey version will possess a RWD with up to 286 hp and a more petite 83-kilowatt battery. This can even produce 200 miles of range.

Still though, Volkswagen is trying to get a production version of this electric van in the next year in 2022.

The CEO of Volkswagen Scott Keogh had anticipated the delay within a recent interview. “I wish it was coming next year. It’s not going to come quite as soon as that; it’s going to be a little bit later than that.”

So, sorry, surfer bros. But your dreams of saving the planet one electric mile at a time will have to wait.
