Ugly cars have a solid history. No matter the industry, innovation is key. When you deal with a topic that has been around as long as the automotive industry, “innovation” can take some peculiar turns. When developing a product, one must look at innovation and think to themselves “where do we go from here?”. Unfortunately, not every idea is a good one. Below is our list of top 3 ugliest cars.

#3 Ford Edsel

The late 50s automotive industry was going through a phase. The Cold War bolstered capitalism in some of the most gaudy and over-the-top ways. None had seen this as drastically as the Ford Edsel.

From the ugly flared tail to the just as ugly front, the Edsel has remained one of Fords worst auto’s since its inception. Many car enthusiasts have major disdain for this car.

The front end was a mish-mash. From the split fender to the rather “feminine” grille, not one person on the consumer side said, “this works” or “Yes, I would like to buy an Edsel.”

From the low safety standard to the unappealing look, the Edsel is definitely one of the worst cars from the 50s.

#2 Tetra 603

Has anyone ever said, “that tri-clops is really attractive”? No. Nobody ever said that. Come to think of it, do tri-clops even exist? The correct answer is…”yeah, sort of…”.

The Tetra 603 was a hard lesson for the auto maker. The concept was to deliver a vehicle that was different from the rest…unfortunately, even by today’s standards “different” doesn’t really mean “good”.

The Tetra 603 was sleek. It had a suitable design, but the front end. I mean, look at it, the curved front end makes the vehicle look like it just bit into an extremely sour lemon. It was so bad that it drastically turned people away.

#1 Bond Mini Car: Worst Of The Ugly Cars

Nobody, not one person in the history of ever, thought mustard yellow and brown made an appealing color combination. Mix that with the awkward and goofy design on what you could best describe as a “car” and you get the Bond Mini Car.

The…”car” was designed for easier access for those who couldn’t afford a vehicle. With England being a close-nit island, big American cars (the Edsel) were less practical and presented many issues with driving and parking on busy England roads. Thus, smaller more conventional methods were introduced to the public.

The Bond Minicar used 3 wheels so its more akin to a motorcycle than conventional “car”. This was to allow it to be defined as such. With one wheel in the front, this created an unnecessary feature that many car buyers did not expect: tipping.

It was the perfect car to get you to the grocery store and back and nothing else. You were lucky to make it there and back without any issues. The addition of that specific year was the front wheel fenders to make it look more like a car…except it wasn’t. This only added to how ugly the vehicle looked. In our case, the Bond Mini car is the worst of the bunch. It has definitely made its rank with us in terms of ugly cars.
