When you’re creating a video game, there’s more than one thing that you have to consider. What type of game is it? Who’s your audience? Is the story strong? What are the characters’ skills?

And of course, what are the cars the game will be using?

In the case of Cyberpunk 2077, the choice was simple when creating a dystopic metropolis of the sci-fi future. For Johnny Silverhand, the rockstar character played by Keanu Reeves, the perfect car was a choice that auto and sicko fans all over the world would recognize.

A 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo.

The design team first started on this ambitious addition by cross-referencing concept sketches, photogrammetry and images of the time. In a pursuit to recreate the classic to be a vehicle of the future.

Essentially, this was no easy challenge as they would bring the car into a world of imaginary cars full of luxury, strength and overall coolness.

The deigners assume that the evolution of vehicles in the real world will likely be replaced with more space-efficiency, such as public single-seater capsules. And eventually, with the push for electric vehicles to be the bees knees, internal combustion engines will be seen as a memory of the days gone by.

Some inspirations for the game design are as obvious as Blade Runner, Akira and Miami Vice. As for the cars, such classics had to be revered more than just total recreation of a Porsche 911. The Ferrari Testarossa, Lancia Stratos, Lamborghini Countach, Chevrolet Corvette C2, Ferrari F40 are a few that come to mind.
