BMW has been offering its hand in the newly emerging electric/hybrid industry. With Tesla being the front runner for electric cars in Germany, the automaker needs to catch up.
BMW Releases i-8 M
As a follow up to the company’s lackluster unveiling of the i-8, the company needed to go further. BMW is known for its extensive research and development. This works to create tight, effective, and precision engineering.
The i-8 Was A Disappointment
When BMW first revealed the i-8 was extremely hyped. For $150,000 purchasers received a car that could not compete, lacked the comfort of a luxury vehicle and depreciated as quickly as you would expect.
Many of the exotic features were fake. The lack of exhaust meant that the vehicle made no sound. This was circa 2008 when hybrids began to hit the scene. One of the main questions that BMW had to address was the sound a hi-end sports car could make.
They answered this simply by routing the exhaust sounds through the speaker system. This attempt didn’t help its case and only added to the “fake-ness” of the car. Needless to say, the old i-8 wasn’t what consumers wanted.
The i-8M
Soon to hit the line is the i-8M, a revamp of the original. BMW learned its lessons with development as well as taking in the massive consumer complaints about the vehicle.
The new hybrid features a nod to the old M1 concept from back in the day. This design makes the car more sleek as well as intimidating (for a hybrid).
The power is where this really shines. At 600 horse power, this vehicle is a true powerhouse hybrid. It can also get up to 60 miles without gas which (depending on who you ask) is a huge step up from the original.
Overall, we look forward to seeing how this car drives and feels!
