Winter weather alerts early today could affect more than 50 people across the Eastern U.S. This may occur as a massive storm system churns on after leaving its mark from Florida to Maine with the tornadoes, freezing rain, and snow. Also, the winter storm could bring more heavy snowfall on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. It would be from the Northeast that caused widespread power outages overall. This includes major road closures and several flight cancellations a day than earlier across the Southeast.

Winter Storm: Air Travel

The wintry conditions are affecting air travel. As a result, 1,200 U.S. flights have been canceled as of this morning after 3,000 U.S. flights were just canceled on Sunday.

Power is Out

In 11 states, there are currently 217,089 customers without power. The states with the most customers are without power include South Carolina 32,768; North Carolina 31, 432, West Virginia 24,183, Georgia 23,414 and Pennsylvania 19,679.

Today there could be eight to 12 inches of snow that could fall in Pittsburgh and Buffalo, New York. Plus, there would be more than a foot of heavy snow which is expected across the upper Ohio Valley through the lower Great Lakes region.

On Monday, strong winds did lead to coastal flooding from Virginia to Maine. Also, Buffalo could, in fact, see wind gusts up to 45 mph. Moreover, New York City may get 55-mph guests. Plus some parts of Maine could, then, get gusts up to 65 mph. Also, cold air is behind the storm system. There is a prior arctic plunge over the Northeast that is going to keep the temperatures below freezing until Wednesday in that region. In addition, there is part of the South and Mid-Atlantic is going to see temperatures recover by Tuesday. Also, another round of bitter cold, with possible snow, is shaping up for the end of the week.
