COVID-19 booster shots are going beyond the first and second doses. This is with more eligible individuals are going for a third dose of the vaccine than one of the initial regimens.
COVID-19: Booster Doses
There is a slight increase in vaccinations during the first week of October because of the booster dose. This is according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data. Moreover, around 6.6 million shots were administrating from September 30 to October 6th. It is nearly 2.7 million of which were booster shots. Then there were about 2 million which were the first doses and 2 million were the second doses.
According to the CDC data, more than 6.7 million booster shots have been administrating in total. In fact, the bulk of those has gone to seniors. While, in fact, about 2.4 million have gone to adults ages 18-64.
Plan for Pfizer Shots
In fact, last month, the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Protection have signed off on a plan to give additional Pfizer shots. This would be to people that are ages 65 and older, among other groups.
What President Joe Biden had originally proposed was broader than the approval which is more narrow now. Moreover, it was indicating in August he did want every American too, in fact, be eligible for a booster dose eight months after their last shot. This is pending approval. Those who are now eligible for a booster shot, however, do tend to be the same group that was first in line for a dose when they were first made available. In fact, the president’s proposal may still be feasible. At-risk populations who do receive Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines await regulatory approval.
COVID-19: Immunocompromised Individuals
There were third doses received by some immunocompromising individuals. This was after the third dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine after the FDA extended their emergency use authorizations in August. In fact, about 1.4 million people have, in fact, had a third dose of Moderna’s vaccine, this is according to the CDC data.
We hope that everyone is getting their vaccines. This pandemic should be over, and we can all do our part by getting the boosters we need. And of course, we hope there’s enough good parking at COVID vaccine sites!
